How are makers selected for Shine?

Shine is an annual new talent showcase in jewellery and silversmithing. Presented by the Goldsmiths’ Centre, it celebrates up and coming UK designer makers and presents new collections hand-picked for their talent and skill. Each maker is supported through an intensive online skills training programme, delivered by the Goldsmiths' Centre, and designed to get them market ready for presenting their work, a physical showcase at the Goldsmiths' Centre and selling pop-up events.

Applications for inclusion in the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s 2020 Shine programme were by invitation. The showcased makers have been selected on the basis of a coherent, well-made collection, which is appropriately priced and presented.

The Goldsmiths’ Centre undertook wide-reaching talent spotting from its programmes, and emerging maker exhibitions and events over the past year, to identify the makers who were invited to be part of the 2020 Shine cohort. The talent spotted makers are all in the first three years of business.

I am a maker. How can I apply?

Each year the Goldsmiths’ Centre evaluates its programmes, to ensure they are fit for purpose. The criteria for selection to Shine 2021 will be established next year, following a review of this year’s programme.

You can express your interest in taking part by emailing shop@goldsmiths-centre.org and providing your name, email address and business website details. Alternatively, if you have a talented student, member of staff or someone in your network who you think should be considered, you can also let us know about them.
