Mark Eames brings his broad creative arts background to his jewellery practice. Faced with the difficult decision of choosing a specialism on his combined arts HND course, Mark initially pursued photography. During 18 years working in the BBC’s camera department, he rediscovered his passion for jewellery making through a part-time course at his local college, followed by further training in jewellery design at City Lit in London and advanced studies at Holts Academy in Hatton Garden. Today, Mark works from his home studio, designing and making contemporary jewellery. He regularly exhibits at leading craft events across the UK, including Handmade Oxford. Alongside his jewellery practice, he continues to work in the studio team at TNT Sports, covering UEFA Champions League football, and spends part of the year working as a gardener. Mark's varied career and creative background continue to influence his jewellery, combining technical precision with an appreciation for craftsmanship developed over many years in both the arts and broadcasting.

Mark's Magpie collection is a testament to his constant pursuit of shiny ideas and moments of inspiration. He drew this inspiration from a range of sources, including graphic novels like Alan Moore’s ‘The Killing Joke’, music and lyrics from Rosalia’s album ‘Lux’ and David Bowie’s ‘Station to Station’; even a road trip along Ireland’s wild Atlantic Way, where he captured the Giant’s Causeway with his camera, provided a wealth of creative ideas. Through drawing and sketching, Mark plays with and processes these experiences and juxtaposes ideas to create something new. The results are pieces like the HG Wells-inspired Walker ring in its three-legged cradle, seeking world domination, and a pendant inspired by a turtle-skeleton/motor-engine hybrid. These works incorporate pattern and detail hidden in negative spaces while maintaining a sleek, outward simplicity.
