Edwin Charmain
Indonesian-born jewellery designer and maker Edwin Charmain comes from a family with a background in textile manufacturing, a legacy he reinterprets through the ancient art of filigree. By twisting and compressing fine silver wires, he creates intricate pieces that merge batik-inspired motifs with organic and architectural forms. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in 2018, with a master’s degree in jewellery, Edwin has exhibited at the London Design Festival, and Munich and New York Jewellery Week, among other shows. Twice awarded by GC&DC, he has also been admitted as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers.
The Garden of Recollection is a jewellery collection inspired by Edwin’s memory of his family’s garden, now gone. Jasmine, Ixora, and a tapestry of tropical blooms once flourished beside a gently curved bridge and sculptural forms crafted by his grandfather. This harmony of flora and form echoes Indonesia’s Sekar Jagad batik motif, reflecting the multicultural spirit of the archipelago, where diverse ethnicities live side by side: ‘Like petals of different hues, rooted in the same soil, swaying to one wind.’ In this imagined garden, memory blooms, carrying quiet traces of distant lands. It becomes a space where difference is honoured and coexistence gently reimagined, inviting wearers to reflect, connect, and belong. Handcrafted in silver filigree, each piece in the collection interprets floral forms through rhythmic geometry and layered structures, embodying the intricacy of memory. Worn on the body, each form reflects transformation, growing from you, as you become part of them.
