Alice Biolo

Hailing from Italy, Alice Biolo began her studies in jewellery design at the Liceo P. Selvatico in Padova. After earning her diploma, she moved to Scotland, where she pursued a course in silversmithing and jewellery design at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating with a first-class BA (Hons) in 2023. Biolo explores themes of trauma and insecurities through her conceptual and narrative collections, developing an interest in the hidden, which she translates into her contemporary designs. The predominant characteristic of her creations lies in their simple appearance, eschewing overt symbolism for the public, and instead hiding intricate designs to foster an intimate connection solely with the wearer. Currently based in Glasgow, she works as an independent jewellery artist, participating in national and international exhibitions and residencies. Over the years, she has been honoured with several awards.

Characterised by a minimalist look, Alice Biolo’s Hide Collection explores the theme of the hidden, encapsulating intricate designs inside smooth sterling silver structures, visible only through a circular opening. At first glance, they may appear fundamental in shape, but as a glimmer of light catches them, the elements enclosed within these structures, such as sharp pins and gemstones, reveal themselves in motion. Combining traditional techniques with modern technology, such as the use of a laser welder, these pieces of jewellery come to life, from statement rings to more subtle pins for everyday wear.
