Morvarid Alavifard is an Iranian precious metal artist based in the UK. She works primarily with silversmithing and jewellery techniques. Morvarid has been awarded a Silvers Fellowship from Yorkshire Artspace, where she is further developing her practice and skills. She obtained her master’s degree in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2022, supported by the Behrens Foundation Bursary Scholarship. Following her time at the RCA, she spent a year at Bishopland Educational Trust, during which she was honoured with the Jane Goodman Award and Bursary. Prior to this, she graduated with first-class Hons in Jewellery and Objects from Birmingham City University. She has a background in architecture and music.

Employing traditional silversmithing techniques, Morvarid Alavifard’s The Whisper of Freedom Collection exaggerates her emotions, shaping the metal to mirror her internal struggles. Banned from dreaming, thinking, and speaking up, Morvarid turns to silver as a diary, using it to reflect her innermost thoughts. Inspired by a visit to Isfahan, Iran, she infuses each bowl in the collection with conflicted symbols and forms, conveying a spectrum of emotions. The choice of bowl shapes—once vessels for drinking, symbolising the act of bringing light and life—invites others to feel, touch, and experience these emotions through the material itself. Through this tactile connection, she hopes to offer herself and others a sense of freedom, allowing the unspoken to be seen and felt.
