Lois Lo

Lois Lo was born and raised in Hong Kong and originally aspired to become a Product Designer. Influenced by woodwork, she wondered if her experience could be applied to metalwork, potentially transforming traditional stone-setting techniques. After falling in love with metal as a material, she began her studies for a Bachelor of Arts in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins, London, followed by a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2023. Recently awarded the Mae It Award at Cockpit Arts, Lois continues to explore innovative stone-setting techniques. Her passion for machinery remains strong, and she skillfully combines modern technology, such as laser welding, with traditional Jewellery making techniques to create her distinctive wearable art.

Lois Lo’s Urban Development Collection incorporates smoky quartz, topaz, synthetic spinel, and stainless steel into jewellery inspired by scaffolding and industrial structures. By blending traditional and modern techniques, she creates precise and intricate connections, allowing for innovative settings without harming the gemstones. When designing, Lois uses stone carving to build her jewellery like architectural building blocks, stacking stones for a distinctive aesthetic. She aims to preserve the artistry of jewellery making in a mass-produced world, showcasing the beauty of bespoke, meticulously crafted wearable art.
