Misha McLean
Misha McLean is a jeweller based in Glasgow, Scotland. She graduated in 2024 from The Glasgow School of Art with a degree in silversmithing and jewellery, having completed an exchange semester at New York’s Pratt Institute in 2022, which introduced her to the jewellery industry on an international level. Since then, she has been an Artist in Residence at The Glasgow School of Art. Misha has been named a Hammond PR Bright New Gems ‘One to Watch’, invited to exhibit at Galerie Marzee’s International Degree Show, and received runner-up in the Guild of Enamellers Bursary Award. She has exhibited internationally, participating in both Munich Jewellery Week and New York Jewellery Week. With a background in hairdressing, working as a salon stylist and as a session stylist within art teams, Misha is deeply interested in the ways we adorn our bodies, and how this can be a powerful tool for self-expression.
Repeat Prescription is a political collection of art jewellery that explores relationships with and attitudes toward medicine. In the Western world, pharmaceuticals are deeply interwoven into our culture and lives from the moment we are born until we take our final breath. Misha’s interest in the subject began at a young age when she was given an EpiPen after a severe allergic reaction. Amazed by this piece of life saving medical equipment, she became aware of the true power of modern medicine. While pharmaceuticals can greatly improve quality of life, they must be used with caution; misuse, addiction, and adverse side effects are just a few of the many dangers associated with prescription drugs. Precious materials contrast with fluorescent colour bursts, reminiscent of ’90s rave posters. Misha fuses contemporary techniques such as CAD modelling and 3D printing with traditional silversmithing skills to create talismanic, thought-provoking wearable art.
