Liu Yang is a London-based jewellery designer and gemmologist, whose practice is rooted in a fascination with the unique characteristics of natural gemstones and their inclusions. Her contemporary work combines experimental stone-setting techniques with architectural forms, challenging the conventional relationship between metal and gemstone. Liu’s work has been recognised by the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council, including a Gold Award in 2025 (Junior Creative Setting) and the Gem-A Award in 2026. She has exhibited internationally, including at Goldsmiths’ Fair, Romanian Jewelry Week, Slovenian Jewelry Week and Munich Jewellery Week.

Liu’s collection Shimmer is an exploration of light, movement and structure. Inspired by the interlocking construction of traditional Chinese wooden furniture, the collection reimagines stone setting through contemporary architectural forms. Using tension to suspend the gemstones, each piece allows light to travel through the stone, revealing its natural inclusions and subtle shifts in colour. The result is a collection that celebrates the unique character of every gemstone while creating the illusion that each stone is floating effortlessly between the fingers.
