Marina Skia
Marina Skia began her journey in jewellery after taking a beginner’s course at a time of professional transition, following years of study in economics, mathematics, and statistics, and a career as a business analyst. Drawn to the precision of making, she pursued rigorous vocational training in Athens, mastering traditional goldsmithing techniques. She later moved to London where, during her master’s degree at The Cass, London Metropolitan University, she focused on concept development, contemporary design, new technologies and worked with unconventional materials. Since graduating, she has continued to refine her craft and bring together past experiences into a personal design philosophy. In 2024, she launched her fine jewellery brand with the debut collection, COSMOS, which includes designs in 18ct gold and diamonds, shaped by a commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and meaningful design. Marina’s work reflects a hybrid way of thinking: a synthesis of logic and emotion, tradition and modernity, grounded in a multidisciplinary past and cross-cultural perspective.
Marina’s fine jewellery COSMOS Collection is inspired by the origins of the universe. Its conceptual spark came with the release of NASA’s James Webb photographs. Through its unique lens, the telescope offers glimpses of galaxies formed billions of years ago and symbolises humanity’s enduring longing to understand where we come from, why we are here and how to live meaningfully. The design process began with the analysis of hundreds of images to identify visual patterns. Sketching and research distilled the imagery into a single idea: the dialogue between light and darkness. Through abstraction the design was reduced to its purest elements: a round form, symbolising a pixel of light and a tapered wire suggesting motion. These evolved into jewellery forms developed in CAD, crafted in Marina’s studio with stones set by specialists in Hatton Garden.
