Niamh Wright
Niamh Wright is a Scottish-based contemporary jeweller. She graduated from The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) in 2023. Niamh went on to do a year-long residency GSA to expand her design and making skills, focusing on honing her craft in digital design, specifically using Virtual Reality (VR) equipment. Her interest in VR stems from its endless possibilities; she enjoys mixing organic and manmade materials, combined with distinct colours and soft forms that are unique to her personal style. Since finishing her residency, she has taken part in exhibitions in London, Glasgow and Munich and has sold work at markets with Teagreen at the V&A Dundee and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. Niamh now works in a shared studio space in Glasgow’s WASPs Briggait, where she continues to develop her practice.
Niamh’s Evolve Collection transforms creative techniques such as embroidery, chain‑making, and beading into abstract expressions of emotional exploration. She draws on forms including loops, stitches and chains, exaggerating them into visual metaphors for her evolving inner self. Using handmade stencils, she paints in layers with watercolour, enriched with pens, pencils, and mixed media to add depth and nuance. Extending this language into her jewellery, Niamh reimagines the natural formation of pearls through abstract forms translated into VR 3D models. She works across CAD applications, then 3D‑prints her designs in nylon, hand-dying each piece with colours drawn from her paintings. These evolve into jewellery with Sterling‑silver fittings, laser‑cut mother‑of‑pearl components inlaid with neon acrylic, and hand‑finishing through filing, polishing, and soldering. Niamh uses her feelings as an influence. Her soft forms and distinct colour palettes reflect emotional lows and highs, resulting in work grounded in sensitivity, reflection, and personal growth.
