Jewellery designer, silversmith and hand engraver Epona Smith is based in London. Trained in Taiwan, Birmingham and Florence, specialising in traditional hand-push engraving, her work brings together Eastern visual aesthetics and European craftsmanship. Formerly a master hand engraver at Tiffany & Co., her work has included engraving Patek Philippe watches and the Wimbledon Championship trophies and undertaking commissions for the Royal Household. She has exhibited her work internationally. Through her creations, Epona explores how line, light and surface can transform precious objects into contemporary heirlooms.

Epona’s Carved Light collection is an exploration of how her engraved lines alter the surface of metal. Through jewellery and silverware, she uses traditional hand-push engraving to carve flowing lines that catch light, create depth and continually change with movement. Inspired by the rhythm of Chinese calligraphy and the quiet precision of gongbi painting, a style known for its realistic and meticulous depictions of nature, her work couples Eastern and European artistic traditions to create contemporary objects that are made to be worn, used and lived with. As light moves across every engraved surface, each piece reveals something new over time.
